Michael Astwood
President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Astwood’s primary vision for ASRT is to help the federal, state and local government agencies achieve their mission for public health excellence by increasing the quality and caliber of services while reducing risk to the government. Mr. Astwood’s expertise spans areas of infectious disease, bioinformatics and genomics, translational research, diagnostic assay development, and public health preparedness and response. While his formal education and experience have focused on the hard sciences, he possesses a passion and unique abilities for business management, client relations, and employee mentorship. Along with these attributes, he brings an unparalleled level of dedication to his work that translates to very high standards of performance in all aspects of ASRT’s services.
Mr. Astwood holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Master of Science in Medical Bioinformatics from Johns Hopkins University.
Mr. Astwood is a highly regarded and recognized professional who established ASRT, Inc. with a vision to provide specialized expertise and scientific services primarily targeted to the government sector. Drawing upon over 10 years of experience in domestic, federal, state, and local markets, as well as private industry, he brings a broad range of technical and management experience to the company. In his previous role, Mr. Astwood served as Chief Operating Officer for IHRC, Inc., where he oversaw the company’s operations and helped lead it from a small business to a highly competitive enterprise.
